iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air now available to order

The iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air are now available to order. First deliveries ship on September 19.

You could order AirPods Pro 3 and new Apple Watch lineup as soon as the event ended, but today is the first time customers can claim their new iPhones for launch day. You can also buy new accessories, including the Crossbody Strap and the TechWoven cases.

If you haven’t decided yet what to buy, here’s a reminder of what’s new with the iPhone 17 lineup.

iPhone 17

The base model iPhone 17 gets a nice, if under-stated, set of updates. The screen is slightly larger, now 6.3-inches, with thinner bezels and increased peak brightness. The base iPhone 17 also has ProMotion high-refresh rate display for the first time, as well as always-on mode so your lock screen always stays visible.

There’s a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a new 18-megapixel front selfie camera with Center Stage automatic reframing. The Center Stage front camera uses a square sensor, so you can take landscape selfies without having to physically rotate the phone. The iPhone can detect if people are just out of frame, and automatically zoom out to fit everyone in the shot.

You also get a performance boost thanks to the new A19 chip, faster wired charging speed, and more durability with Ceramic Shield 2 offering up to 3x better scratch resistance for the display. And the iPhone 17 comes with 256 GB storage as standard, for the same $799 price point.

iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max feature an all-new industrial design, made of aluminium. The rear camera module stretches edge-to-edge. Apple says most of the iPhone’s components are now stuffed into the camera protrusion, which leaves more space for a bigger battery. The combination of the use of the aluminium material and a new vapor chamber improve heat dissipation significantly, so the phone runs cooler for longer.

With the A19 Pro chip onboard, the iPhone 17 Pro delivers up to 40% better sustained performance compared to iPhone 16 Pro. Battery life is also significantly improved on both the Pro and Pro Max. The phone sports the new Center Stage selfie camera on the front, and a new 48-megapixel telephoto lens on the rear, with optical zoom of 4x and an 8x sensor crop mode.

The Pro line comes in three new colorways; silver, blue and a bold orange. The base price for the iPhone 17 Pro has increased by $100, although this is mitigated by the fact that you now get 256 GB storage as standard. The 256 GB iPhone 17 Pro is the same price as the 256 GB iPhone 16 Pro a year ago, that is $1099. The iPhone 17 Pro Max price remains unchanged, starting at $1199 for 256 GB. A 2 TB storage option is available for the Pro Max for the first time.

iPhone Air

The iPhone Air brings a whole new form factor to the iPhone lineup. The Air features a strikingly-thin 5.6mm body, titanium sides, and durable Ceramic Shield glass on front and back. The iPhone Air features a 6.5-inch display, placing it between the 17 Pro and Pro Max in terms of size.

The Air is powered by the new A19 Pro chip, albeit with one less GPU compared to the Pro phones. It uses the new Apple C1X modem for cellular connectivity, which Apple says is faster than the iPhone 16 Pro modem while using 30% less energy. To maximise internal space, the Air does not have a physical SIM card slot. It uses eSIM worldwide.

The thinness comes with some tradeoffs, most notably the lack of multiple rear cameras. You get a single main camera on the back, as well as the new 18-megapixel Center Stage selfie camera on the front. The Air also lacks a second bottom-firing speaker, and there are questions about battery life longevity. Apple’s tech specs suggest the Air will be roughly on par with the iPhone 16 Pro, but customers wanting the best battery life probably should choose the base 17 or the 17 Pro models. Apple has made a new MagSafe Battery accessory for the iPhone Air, if you want a power boost when travelling.

The iPhone Air is priced at $999 for the base 256 GB configuration. You can choose from black, white, gold and light blue color options.
